Lynn Nottage's work delves into the depths of human experience, exploring the intricate intersections of race, gender, culture, and history, while also illuminating the startling simplicity of desire. Her writing is infused with a clear tenderness, humor, and compassion, as described by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel.

Nottage's two latest plays, "Intimate Apparel" and "Fabulation," serve as companion pieces that span a century in the lives of African American women. "Intimate Apparel" is a thoughtful and affecting play that tells the story of Esther, a proud and shy seamstress in 1905 New York, who creates exquisite lingerie for both the elite and the marginalized. "Fabulation" reimagines Esther as Undine, a PR-diva living in present-day Manhattan, whose life spirals down from the heights of her swanky office to the roots of her origins in Brooklyn. Through these opposite journeys, Esther and Undine both achieve a satisfying end of self-discovery.

Recognized as an "exceptionally gifted playwright" by the New York Observer, Lynn Nottage's body of work includes plays such as "Crumbs from the Table of Joy," "Mud, River, Stone," "Por' Knockers," and "Las Menias." For "Intimate Apparel," she was awarded the Francesca Primus Prize and the American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award in 2004. The play has since been slated for 16 productions during the 2005-2006 season, further cementing Nottage's reputation as a distinct and compelling voice in the world of theatre.
